Using
Student Groups to Facilitate on-Line Communication & Collaboration
Jennifer
Brown and Janey Oliphint, Educational Technologists in the Office
of Online Learning, presented on the topic of Using Student Groups
to Facilitate On-Line Communication and Collaboration.
Among the items
discussed were:
- the benefits
and challenges of using group work in both face to face and online
environments;
- ideas for
transitioning activities from face to face environments to online
courses [brainstorming session among participants];
- tips for
making group work effective, and
- how some
standard WebCT tools (e.g. student presentation, private discussion
forum, and chat) can help to foster student-to-student collaboration
and active learning.
