Hardware & Software Requirements

The following are the minimum hardware and software requirements for online courses. Please note that your professor may require additional hardware or software. Please refer to the University’s Online Search Feature to search the GothicNet Portal for notes on additional hardware or software your professor may require.

• Computer with Macintosh or Windows operating system and a minimum of 128MB of RAM (WebTV is not supported)
• Minimum Pentium II 300 MHz processor
• Modem with baud rate of 56K (High speed internet access is preferable, although not required)
• Account with an Internet Service Provider
• Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP (Home or Professional), or Mac OS (10 or higher is recommended)
• Anti-virus software updated on a regular basis
• A WebCT supported browser as noted below

  Validated Browser

  The following is a list of validated browsers. According to WebCT, these browsers have been tested extensively and have been validated for use with WebCT. Any browser versions not listed here are either unsupported or have not been tested with WebCT.

Please note:

• Although AOL is a supported browser, some students encounter problems when using it to access specific WebCT tools or functionality. It may be necessary for some AOL users to minimize AOL while using another supported browser (e.g., Internet Explorer) to access WebCT.
• If you are unsure of your browser version, click Check Browser for more information.
• If you do not currently have the above browsers (which are free), instructions will be provided for downloading and using them.
• Browsers not shown on the tables above have not been tested with WebCT and/or CE 6 so they may or may not work with WebCT and/or CE 6. It is strongly recommended that you use a Validated browser.
